Service Dogs

We are proud supporters and allies of those with disabilities and advocate for the use of both owner and organization trained service dogs!

We occasionally have litters that may produce puppies who have potential for service work and we occasionally look to donate puppies to professional organizations or trainers for service or detection work!

We believe that golden retrievers are the ideal breed for service work and we are proud to have placed many dogs within working service homes!

We strive to produce dogs with the correct temperament, drive and biddability to be successful in service work but not every dog will make the cut and not every litter will have puppies that show potential for service work but we are more than happy to work with individuals, both professional trainers and prospective owner trainers, and do our best to match them to a puppy that will have the highest chance of success for the job ahead of them.

In addition to utilizing a professional trainer to help us evaluate puppies, we also look for a few key aspects that indicate that puppy may be well suited to service work:

  • Forgiving in Nature

  • Medium Drive Levels

  • High Biddability

  • Social but not overly people oriented

  • Stable Minded/ Level Headed

  • Confidence

  • Curious Nature

  • Willing to try new things

  • Offers Eye Contact

  • Handler Attentive

  • Enjoys Retrieving and Training

Some of the things that may cause us to deem a puppy ineligible for service work:

  • Overly social with humans and other dogs

  • Not willing to make eye contact

  • High sensitivity to stimuli

  • Non-forgiving or holding grudges

  • A shy demeanor

  • Frantic or spazzy behavior

  • Chaotic mindset

  • Overly vocal or prone to lots of vocalizations

  • Inability to settle

  • Not willing to try new things or conquer small obstacles

  • Does not seem to enjoy training

  • No inclination to retrieve

  • Very low drive levels

  • Low biddability

We do our best to choose puppies that will have the best chance of success when it comes to service work but the reality is, it takes a special dog to be well suited to service work and we cannot guarantee the puppies success. Our take-back clause still stands, regardless if the puppy is sold for service work or is just a family pet, we will always take puppies back if they don't work out in their new homes!
